OnePlus unveiled its first ever mid-range smartphone, the OnePlus X, last month. The announcement followed the launch of its second generation flagship smartphone, the OnePlus 2, which was launched earlier this year as a replacement for the company’s first generation flagship, the OnePlus One. While the OnePlus X has already been on sale for a while now and even official accessories for it are up for grabs around the globe, the infamous ‘invite system’ is still in place even for this handset, leading to a lot of discontent amongst would-be buyers, even though the company itself is saying that it’s trying its best to give out more invites, and take less time to process orders and ship the devices to their rightful owners.
Now, whether OnePlus manages to sort out those lingering issues remains to be seen, but the company is not holding back from introducing new products to the market. Earlier in the day, OnePlus launched a bunch of official accessories for the OnePlus X in India, and now, through a post on microblogging site Twitter, the company has announced the introduction of a limited edition ceramic version of its latest smartphone, the mid-ranger called OnePlus X. The tweet from the company’s official handle @OnePlus simply reads “Exquisite design and materials. The limited edition #OnePlusX Ceramic is coming November 24” and is accompanied by an image that looks like could be that of a blast furnace, maybe used to fire-bake the material used to construct the OnePlus X body.
Talking about constructing the OnePlus X, according to the company, this particular version of the handset will be made from zirconia ceramic that’s sourced from Australia. As for the metal frame lending the device its structural integrity, it is made up of brushed anodized aluminum. Thus far, only the dark glass Onyx version of the device had been up for sale, which is currently available for a price of around $250 in most markets globally. The new limited edition version is not expected to have any hardware-level changes, meaning the handset will continue to have a 5-inch 1080p panel and will still be powered by the Snapdragon 801 chipset from Qualcomm. The rest of the specs are also expected to remain identical, but it isn’t immediately clear if OnePlus will offer extra storage or RAM on the limited version handsets, which are expected to cost more than the standard edition.
