The OnePlus 2 is the latest flagship device from OnePlus. Of course, they have more recently made available by invite, the OnePlus X. Although the newer handset is one which is intended to be a more affordable handset, leaving the OnePlus 2 remaining as the big OnePlus handset of this year. One of the ways in which the OnePlus 2 differed from the OnePlus One at launch, is that it makes use of the company’s own software OxygenOS. The current version on devices is Oxygen 2.1.1, which is based on Android 5.1.1 (Lollipop). However, the company has today announced that there is an update in the process of rolling out which will see the OnePlus 2 being bumped up to Oxygen 2.1.2.
In terms of the details of the update, it seems it is mostly performance improvements with no visibly notable new features on the horizon. According to the OnePlus blog, OnePlus 2 owners can expect to see an improvement in the the UX for preview on the Camera app, likewise, improvements are also rolling out for app installing and launching. Various supports have been added including support for individual icon customization, support for Russian and Turkish languages and support for lock screen wallpaper. There is also a small number of fixes. These include a fix for RAW format when using third party camera apps. There is also fixes to System Update, which is said to improve the stability of OTAs. Last but not least, there are the general ‘bug fixes and performance improvements’, while the changelog also details “security patches”, although no information on what they’re specifically patching was offered.
These updates are rolling out in the form of an OTA and typical of this style of roll out, not all devices will receive the update in a timely fashion. OnePlus confirm that the update roll out is beginning today, so some should see the update land on their devices today, if they have not already. While for others, the update could take a number of days or even weeks to reach all devices.
