Pebble Technology Corporation, the makers of the Pebble smartwatch, is offering heavy discounts on some of its current models as part of a pre-Black Friday sale, which seems to have become the norm for consumer technology companies this year. While the entry-level Pebble Time has seen a $70 mark down, from an MSRP of $200 to the current offer of $130, the Pebble Time Steel can be now bought for only $200 instead of $250, which was its original list price. What’s not on the discount list however, is the Pebble Time Round, which, as the name suggests, comes with a circular watch face instead of the rectangular one found on the other two devices. The company meanwhile, is also offering a $30 discount on the original Pebble smartwatch, which can now be bought for as low as $70 instead of the regular $100 price-tag that it comes with. All prices mentioned are valid only for devices bought from Pebble’s official website.
As a small background on Pebble and its smartwatches, the Pebble Time is developed in-house by Pebble Devices and is said to be manufactured by Taiwanese manufacturer Foxlink. The smartwatch is the follow-up to the original Pebble smartwatch, which began shipping back in January 2013. The device is currently available from a number of retail outlets, both online and off, including Amazon, Best Buy and Target. The smartwatch began life as a crowd-funded project on Kickstarter earlier this year, where the original backers of the project only had to pay $179 to get their hands on the device.
Taking a quick look at some of the key hardware specs of the Pebble Time smartwatch, it is powered by an STM32F205RE Cortex M3 CPU, and comes with 128 MB of RAM. The device runs on the Pebble OS, which uses a customized FreeRTOS kernel, and is compatible with the two largest mobile operating systems around – Android and iOS. The smartwatch features a color e-ink display that’s protected by Corning Gorilla Glass, and carries a 150 mAh battery. The watch is also fully waterproof, much like the original Pebble smartwatch. As mentioned already, the Pebble Time has a more premium version as well, called the Pebble Time Steel, which is made out of steel instead of the plastic found on the Pebble Time.
