Red Bull has become a force to be reckoned with in the world of sports and advertising, having taken F1 racing by storm, as well as other disciplines like extreme sports. Sony and Red Bull Media House have partnered together to produce BMX Pro Kriss Kyle’s latest short film, dubbed Kaleidoscope. Named as such due to the tricks that Kyle pulls off inside a purpose-built playground, designed to look like the internals of a Kaleidoscope. The film has been put together by Red Bull’s Media House while the Xperia Z5 Premium’s ability to shoot in 4K video was used on set, which is a good idea considering it’s the only smartphone capable of playing back 4K in 4K.
It seems as though Sony and Red Bull are proud of their little partnership here, which is understandable, and while BMX isn’t a discipline that everyone will be familiar with, neither was Gymkhana. Ken Block and his videos tearing up Los Angeles have become incredibly properly, and this could be the start of something similar for Red Bull and Sony, albeit with less noise and more finesse. Kyle said that “filming my performance on the Xperia Z5 Premium was cool, because the clarity of the 4k display helped me to see each split-second so clearly when I played the footage back, helping me see ways to improve and innovate and make some of my dream lines a reality.” We recently reviewed the Xperia Z5 (with hopes to get an Xperia Z5 Premium in soon) and while we can’t pull tricks like Kyle, we were impressed with the overall performance of the 23-megapixel camera. Partnerships like these are what help expand a device’s presence, and adding Red Bull as well as the latest Bond film to brand partners must be doing Sony some good.
The film doesn’t appear to be available on Red Bull’s YouTube page just yet, but the source link below has the entire five-minute video, as well as links to some pretty impressive uses for the Xperia Z5 Premium, such as the 0.03-second focusing time and Clear Image Zoom that was used to put together all these technical show pieces into one fun, intriguing film.
