In the realm of graphics for games, Unreal Engine has been one of the top engines for quite some time and games running on their various different engines can be found on mobile, PC, and consoles spanning years of releases. As of today Unreal Engine has released the 4.10 version of the Unreal Engine 4, that brings in a huge list of changes with many of them relating to the Android operating system, which should not only excite game developers but also those who love to play mobile games, as these changes provide better tools and performance for the ones making the games.
One notable change is the support for Android 6.0 Marshmallow, meaning gamers should now have better access to games if they’re on the latest Android software, as developers who already have games running on this engine can now make sure their games support devices running on Android 6.0. If you’re big on mobile games but aren’t necessarily fond of touchscreen controls, Unreal Engine 4 version 4.10 now supports a few new Android game controllers, including the game controller for the Amazon Fire TV, the Samsung Gamepad El-GP20, and the SHIELD Controller from NVIDIA. In relation to this, Unreal Engine 4 games can now detect controller mapping automatically based on the type of controller, so playing games should get a lot easier thanks to this particular function, unless of course, you just play using the touchscreen.
Game developers can now utilize web browser widgets if they need or want them to pop up in-game for things like logins or stores to make in-app purchases, or for things like announcements about maintenance or upcoming events. Unreal has made it easier for graphics to be scaled to fit properly for the device the game is running on, with a range of low and high-end devices, so no matter what type of device you use the graphics should be able to render as needed based on what the type of hardware in your device can handle. Unreal Engine compared the same scene on both the Galaxy S III and the Galaxy S6 Edge so the difference in graphics quality can be viewed with the new “Material Quality” scaling system.
