Rumor: Sony Xperia Z6 To Include Pressure Sensitive Display

Sony has not been having the success they expected with their mobile division, but the company is still showing commitment. Sony’s president recently stated that they won’t sell this division, so they seem to be convinced on the quality of their products. The Xperia Z5 lineup was released recently, unsurprisingly, the design of these phones resemble the one they have used in previous versions, which some might argue is getting a little dull. Yet, Sony integrated a fingerprint scanner in the power button and a new camera sensor with very fast autofocus. We don’t know when will the Xperia Z6 launch, but Sony is reportedly already working on it.

The first rumor claimed that the Xperia Z6 would be powered with the recently released Snapdragon 820, which doesn’t sound unlikely, as the Xperia Z line has always integrated the best Snapdragon processors available, plus this processor is expected to be found in many flagship phones next year. A new report that comes from an unnamed source which claims to be very closely associated with the distribution network of Sony Mobile Communications includes new information. First of all, the report claims that the Xperia Z6 would be released in the second half of 2016, which would not follow the 6-month release cycle strategy that the company has been using for a while.

According to the source, Sony will integrate a pressure sensitive display in the Xperia Z6. These kinds of displays can be found in some Apple products and in the Huawei Mate S. It is used to display different kinds of information or provide quick access to some functions depending on the amount of pressure that is applied to the display. Synaptics has released the necessary technology for these kinds of displays, so it’s possible that this feature will be available in many phones next year including the Xperia Z6, but let’s remember that this is only a rumor for now. Sony would probably want to increase the resolution of their flagship phone and the amount of RAM to keep up with the competition. If the Xperia Z6 is released in H2 2016, the Xperia Z6 Compact might be unveiled as well, although that could be one where a a pressure sensitive screen is sacrificed to reduce costs.
