The Galaxy View from Samsung is a large tablet aimed at media consumption for the most part. The device is already up for sale in the US and the nation’s second largest wireless carrier, AT&T, has already announced that it will be available on its network from tomorrow, as reported earlier. Now, reports coming out of Canada seems to suggest that Samsung is making sure the gadget is also available north of the border with immediate effect. The point of contention for a lot of interested readers however, will be the fact that Samsung’s largest ever tablet will only be available on Bell, at least for now. There’s no word if an unlocked version of the device, compatible with other carriers, will launch in the country any time soon. As for the pricing, the Canadian version of the tablet will cost $699 on Bell, as per the report. Coming to the software side of the Bell-exclusive version of the tablet, it will reportedly come with Bell’s Fiber TV app pre-installed, meaning Bell TV customers will be able to watch live TV on the tablet through the app itself without the need for an extra set-top box specifically for the tablet.
Bell’s Fibre TV is of course, not the only Galaxy View-specific application going around. The device, with its massive 18.4-inch display, is unique enough to start getting its own apps from multiple sources, including CNN. The news network has launched an all-new app for the massive new tablet from Samsung, called ‘CNN for Samsung Galaxy View’. Samsung itself has released multiple apps aimed specifically at the massive new media-consumption tablet. While the company had earlier launched the ‘Family Square’ gallery app for the device, reports now indicate that the company has launched yet another new app called the ‘Galaxy View Remote‘, which is a Bluetooth-powered remote control app that allows Android-powered smartphones and tablets to control the Galaxy View remotely.
Taking a quick look at some of the hardware specs of the Galaxy View tablet, the device features an 18.4-inch display panel, as mentioned already. The pixel resolution is 1920 x 1080, which gives it a pixel density of 120 dpi. It’s powered by an Exynos 7580 chipset and comes with 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage. The Galaxy View carries a 5,700 mAh battery and runs Android 5.1.1 Lollipop out of the box.
