Virtual reality used to be more often thought of as a buzzword. However, VR has certainly turned more real of late, with an industry now emerging which looks to hold and offer a bright future. One of the reasons for the positive stance of virtual reality is that there are a large number of manufacturers willing to add to the market and bring their own offerings for the consumer to choose from. Of course, like many markets, Samsung is one of the companies who have not only jumped headlong into virtual reality, but is also one of the companies leading the market.
Samsung was one of the first companies to make virtual reality possible at any consumer level, with the launch of their innovator edition Gear VR which landed late last year. A year later and Samsung once again were one of the first to really offer a virtual reality product at a consumer-friendly price-point. In particular, under the $100 barrier with their consumer edition Gear VR. This was a device which was announced back at the start of September, but only became available to pre-order just under two weeks ago.
If initial sales impressions are anything to go by, it certainly looks as though the consumer edition of the Gear VR is going to be a big seller this year and certainly in the run pup to the holiday period. In spite of the Gear VR only becoming available to order on November 10th, it already seems to be out of stock through many online retailers including the likes of Amazon and Best Buy. Both sites are listed the device as either ‘temporarily out of stock’ or ‘sold out online’. With this being a device Samsung is hoping will sell well in the next few weeks, it can only be assumed that it is selling much better than they might have initially expected. At the moment, there is no clear indications of when it will be back in stock though the major retailers, although, it is presumed it is unlikely to be unavailable too long. Interestingly, Samsung do seem to still have some stock themselves for those interested in picking one up directly through Samsung.
