Smartphones are these pretty and shiny devices that we pay a lot of money for, take good care of and put love on. However, in most cases, you need less than a second to drop it and then the dream is over, as the screen will probably break and it will look and feel bad in your hand, or worse, not even work. Last week, Motorola surprised us with a new device that puts an end to this suffering, the Motorola Droid Turbo 2 in the U.S – sold exclusively by Verizon, and the Moto X Force on international markets like Brazil. According to the company, the new handset is shatterproof, meaning you can drop it at will, thanks to several protecting layers of strong materials. Additionally, even if you manage to break the screen, there will be a second one as a backup to make sure your phone keeps functioning after you cannibalize it. Since you shouldn’t really believe in everything companies say when they are trying to sell you their fish, YouTube channel Gizmo Slip decided to put the Droid Turbo 2 to test, and the results are amazing.
The short video is composed by 3 drops from around 4 feet (about 1.2 m) and the phone is dropped with the screen facing down. Where most regular phones would succumb, the Droid Turbo 2 survives with just a few scratches on the bezels, with the screen looking intact without even a scratch. The second drop would be fatal to any other phone strong enough to survive the first, and still the Motorola phone is still there, without a scratch to the screen. Then comes the third drop, and the Droid rocks it, without any sign of damage on the screen. Of course, the bezels look bad, but not as bad, and the display is intact. Motorola really did a good job with this phone as it really stands several impacts.
Just to refresh your memory, the Droid Turbo 2 comes packed with some impressive specs, powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 810 CPU and an Adreno 430 graphics processor unit by Qualcomm, coupled with 3 GB of RAM and 32 or 64 GB of internal storage with support for extra space of up to 2 TB via a microSD card. The 5.4-inches screen has a QHD resolution (1440 x 2560 pixels) offering a really high pixel density of 540 pixels per inch. The rear camera has a 21 megapixels sensor while the front shooter comes with 5 MP. To complete the package there’s a huge 3760 mAh battery.
