Sony Confirms PlayStation Vue Fire TV Support, Chromecast Soon

The last year has seen a surge in activity in what has quickly become dubbed ‘cutting the cord’. As such, consumers do now have more options compared to what is widely considered to be traditional TV services. If you do not want to be contracted into a set price for a long period of time to enjoy TV content, you do not have to. One of those services which came through this year was from Sony in the form of PlayStation Vue. Although, you do not have to sign up for a long-term contract, you did need to own a PlayStation 3 or 4 to make use of the service. Or an iPhone or iPad.

Well, it seems Sony have now decided to expand the availability of PlayStation Vue, as today Sony has confirmed that owners of either the Amazon Fire TV or Fire TV Stick can now make use of the TV streaming service. According to the blog announcement, the service goes live on the Amazon Fire TV devices starting from today. However, that is not all. The blog announcement also does detail that Chromecast support will be coming soon. Exact details on how soon, were not provided. Although Sony has at least confirmed the commitment to bring Chromecast support to PlayStation Vue.

Interestingly, there was absolutely no mention of Android TV support (or even the availability of a general Android app for that matter). One would assume that Chromecast might also mean Android TV device owners should be able to make use of the feature, due to Android TV’s built-in Cast support. Although, as mentioned, there were no specific details on this revealed. In terms of the actual service, this is a monthly fee service with prices starting from $49.99. For those fees you will get access to live TV content and from some of the bigger names including CBS, Fox and ABC, among others. Although, it is worth noting that the service is only currently available to a select number of U.S. cities.
