Sponsored App Review: Veer Contacts Widget

Veer Contacts Widget is an Android app that aims to make it even easier to communicate with your favorite contents, through all the different means that we talk to each other with. Simply pull out the widget from any app or screen you’re on and then you can choose the contact as well as which method to communicate with them. it’s a simple and effective way of sending an SMS, Email, WhatsApp Message or even navigating to their home or office. Put together by the same people that created the VeeCards contact management app, this is something that should make it a lot easier to quickly call or message the most important people in your life, no matter how you communicate with them.

As with other apps like this, you’ll need to download Veer Contacts Widget from the Play Store. Once you launch the app, you’ll be given an introduction on how to use it, which has a friendly tone to it.

This has to be one of the most straightforward and approachable tutorials that I have come across in an app like this as it even uses your own contacts to teach you how to use the app, which is a simple, yet appreciated touch.

There is a little setup that you can do for for the widget, such as adding more contacts, but it appears as though there’s a finite number for free users, and I do wish I could add a few more to this list. Of course, should you want to add more slots, you can pay do so with Premium unlocks.

There are a number of favorite actions that you can apply as well, but once again there is only a small number that you can have assigned at any one time. That is unless you’re willing to pay for some in-app purchases.

There is a long list of different actions that you can apply here however:

Not all of these are free, which is unfortunate for some users, but considering there are no ads included in the app, the developers need to make some money somehow. The in-app purchases are well-explained and seem reasonable, with an option to unlock everything on offer as well.

On to actually using Veer Contacts Widget in practice, and we can see that it’s nice and subtle. Here’s a look at my  homescreen, with the Veer handle off to the right.

You can move and place this widget wherever you like on your display at any time, up or down, left or right. Pulling the handle out always results in the same thing of course, and you’re greeted with the main menu:

You move the wheel of contacts as you would a rotary dialler, and there’s a little haptic feedback as you swap between contacts, which is a nice touch. Veer also adapts to different contacts, in the above shot both WhatsApp and email are shown, but in the below shot only WhatsApp, SMS and Phone are listed as I don’t have an email address for this contact.

Veer Contact Widget is something from the same developers that were behind the VeeCards Android app, which people can check out here.

Veer Contacts Widget is an interesting concept, and it’s something I can see being very useful for those that have a set few colleagues or family members they need to get in touch with all the time. For me, I was happy that it included WhatsApp support, as many of my friends have been moving over to the service for some time now, but I was sad to see that Hangouts support or Twitter support weren’t included for free. Having said that, the free version of the app includes zero ads, which is a big plus. While this is the sort of thing that might be more useful for those in business, personal users can have a lot of fun with this as well, it makes sharing links from websites quicker, it doesn’t care which app you use to talk to each other and this is really easy to use.

Ratings

  • Speed (4/5) – Veer Contacts Widget is nice and speedy and does not slow down your device in any way.
  • Features (4/5) – A fairly simple, yet fully-featured approach to quickly accessing your contacts, this has a lot of value on offer.
  • Theme (4/5) – With a good use of Material Design used in the setup app and a clean overlay over your display, this is both easy to use and good-looking in equal measure.
  • Overall (4/5) – With more services added this would be much better – which the team are working on – but it’s already a clean and simple way of quickly messaging or calling someone whenever or wherever.

Pros

  • Free to download and use without ads, not many apps can say that these days.
  • Works well on all different types of smartphones, regardless of age or specification.
  • Offers good variety of different ways to communicate with friends and family included WhatsApp.
  • Super-simple way of getting to your favorite contacts no matter what you’re doing on your Android smartphone.

Cons

  • More free services would be nice, but they are unlocked for a small fee.

All-in-all, Veer Contacts Widget is a nice and simple way of getting access to your favorite contacts regardless of what you’re doing on your smartphone at the time, and there’s no need to spend a lot of time setting it up, either. It’s slick, easy to use and gets the job done. A great way of calling or sending a quick message without having to go from app-to-app, Veer Contacts Widget is well worth taking a look at to speed up your daily communications. It would be nice if some of the more internet-centric actions such as Hangouts were free, but there are no ads in the free app, and the developers are continuing to add new actions and features.
