Swiss watchmaker TAG Heuer officially announced their Android Wear-powered smartwatch earlier this morning, called the Connected, and as anyone who is familiar with the type of product quality TAG Heuer produces has probably expected, it comes along with a price tag fitting for a Swiss luxury brand. The Connected will cost $1,500 and will come with options for a range of different colored watch bands including a standard black, red, blue, and others. The Connected will run your basic Android Wear OS but it will come with some specific features that will be unique, such as “micro apps” and a series of different watch faces.
Following this morning’s announcement TAG Heuer has started promoting the Connected watch in a number of different videos on their YouTube channel, showing off things like the micro apps mentioned above and the different types of counter widgets that can be integrated into one of the available watch faces. The most comprehensive video shows off varying uses for the Connected as it seemingly goes through an entire day of notifications coming through to the watch, from the alarm upon waking up to the information about upcoming flights. If you’re familiar with Android Wear then you’ll already know basically everything the TAG Heuer Connected is capable of, as Android Wear devices run the same software with little to no difference in functionality. Having said that, the video does display things working as if the watch were in front of you to paint a picture of what it might look like if this watch were on your wrist.
Other videos talk about the history of the TAG Heuer brand from the beginning to now, briefly of course, and one video gives a small description to those who may be looking to pick this watch up on how they can register their Connected watch. Those who register the Connected (which is something you’ll likely want to do at the price you’d be paying for this device) are probably doing so as part of the process needed should you want to trade up from the Connected to an actual TAG Heuer mechanical timepiece once the Connected has reached its end of life cycle, which should take about two years.
