Hangouts was a service that was originally born on the web, for use with Google+ before it became a big mobile app for the Search Giant, and for a lot of users it gets most used on a desktop PC or laptop. While Skype requires users to download their app and create a Microsoft account (something a lot of people probably don’t have in 2015) Google offered up video chat online through a web browser, using the same account that they signed up for a Gmail address with years ago. Now though, Google is making things even easier where the web is concerned.
Over on their Google Apps Update blog, Google is outlining a new feature that should make video chat much easier for everyone involved. Now, when a group of people, say a family or group of colleagues need to add that one person that doesn’t have a Google account, they can do so with ease. All they need to do now is to send the caller a link to the Hangout itself, then the caller will choose a name and be added to the call, it’s as simple as that. This not only makes things easier for those that don’t have a Google Account but it’s also smart marketing on Google’s part.
The Search Giant is looking for businesses to adopt Google Apps for business and have been taking on Microsoft in the same field aggressively. A big part of all this is that people need to communicate with each other to get things done, and not everyone will have a Google Account to mix with a company’s new platform, now it doesn’t matter anymore. Plus, should these callers end up being invited to a lot of these meetings, they might see how simple it all is and open an account themselves and use Hangouts and other Google Services themselves, giving the Internet Giant one more set of eyes to serve up ads and other services to. This new addition to the service should be rolling out in a couple of days to all users, and it comes hot on the heels of the new Hangouts 6.0 for Android.
