500px is a pretty popular app among a lot of people, for finding amazing pictures and finding wallpapers and such for their device. It’s a great app, with a ton of pictures available, which you can download and use. On Friday, the app was updated to version 4.3.0, and the company says it’s a much better looking app through it’s revamped user interface. And we’d have to agree. It’s a bit lighter now and uses material design.
The app now has a lot of white space, which may hurt your eyes at night and when it’s dark, but it does look great. There is a blue status bar, and now sections of the app are accessible with tabs along the top. Instead of using the drop-down menu, as we had in the previous version of the app. 500px also added a gallery section, this is where users can create curated lists of photos. Favorites have vanished and merged into “likes”. With all of these changes, you still can’t change the selection of images that is used for the 500px Android Wear watchface.
With 500px, there was another app from Chainfire, in the 500 Firepaper app. Which has been broken with 500px’s latest update. Wallpapers in 500 Firepaper app could be set for about 24 hours, in as stated by 500px’s rules. There was also a pro upgrade available, which allowed for 7 days of caching an image. This feature was done with cooperation from 500px. Recently the company had taken to watermarking all images accessed with the API, Chainfire believes that the API will be shut down at some point. So the 500 Firepaper app is currently available for free without a pro upgrade.
A pretty big update here for 500px and sort of a big one for 500 Firepaper without the app even being updated. You can find them both on the Play Store, although 500 Firepaper might get removed soon when and if the API from 500px gets shut down, unfortunately. But at least you can still scroll through 500px’s pictures and find some spectucular photography that is shared through the app. There really are some spectacular pictures in there.
