Google officially announced the Pixel C tablet earlier in the Fall, but just this week it became available to consumers for purchase from the Google store with a starting price at $499 for the 32GB model. Like any Google Nexus product, the Pixel C tablet does not come with expandable storage so you’re left with what is built into the device internally as well as the cloud. For some, the Pixel C would be little more than an expensive Android tablet built with premium materials, good specs but not really different from others in the same price range, and an optional accessory that adds some cool functions. For others it will be the premium tablet they have been waiting for. Something that follows along the lines of the same sleek build and design as the Pixel line of Chromebooks, which, while also highly sought after because they’re great Chromebooks, were also quite expensive.
The Pixel C is made of metal which already gives a very stylish look, and the built-in magnets connect to the magnetic keyboard dock for a pretty cool little setup. It should be great for productivity, but you can already get this from cheaper Android tablets with an inexpensive Bluetooth keyboard, and spend less than the tablet+keyboard combo that is the Pixel C. Some consumers and Android enthusiasts are also not very fond of the fact that it runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow instead of Chrome OS. Whatever your opinions on Google’s latest device, it’s sure to be a good tablet that’s made well and performs just as good. The question is, will you be buying one, or will you wait for a price drop or simply opt for something else entirely and save some cash?
