Amazon Announce Major Boost In Fire TV Apps, Games & Channels

Media streaming devices have been doing extremely well over the last year or two and certainly looking to be going strong coming into 2016. In fact, the last couple of months have seen a surge in sales for a number of the newer and latest generational devices. Amazon is one of the companies who has invested heavily in the media streaming platform and is an investment which seems to be paying off. In terms of their offerings, Amazon recently released two new streaming devices. The first is the more powerful Amazon Fire TV which looks to be a standalone streaming device much similar to the ones on offer for the Android TV platform. In contrast, the Fire TV Stick is more of an affordable option which makes use of a similar software experience to the larger Fire TV, albeit within a much smaller and less powerful form factor.

Whichever device you opt for, it is worth knowing that Amazon today confirmed that their Fire TV devices now have access to an even greater selection of content, thanks to a wealth of new apps and games that have become available. In fact, Amazon states that their First TV devices now have access to more apps and games than any other media streaming device, with over 4000 channels, apps and games for Fire TV device owners to make use of. According to Amazon Appstore Vice President, Steve Rabuchin, “We are excited that Fire TV has become the #1 streaming media player in the US, and customers are loving their new Fire TV devices.” Rabuchin also makes a point that the increase in content has come from a direct result of the popularity of the devices at the consumer level, which has in turn fueled and attracted developers to port their content offerings over, “Because of this positive customer response, developers continue to bring great apps to the platform“.

Overall, Amazon has announced that since September, they have added more than 1000 new apps, channels and games. The latest of which only become available this week and include the likes of NBC, NBC Sports, Watch HGTV, Watch Food Network, Watch Travel Channel and Fox Now, among others. In terms of the games which Amazon has added over the last couple of months, a few of the notable titles highlighted by Amazon, include Shovel Knight, Telltale’s Minecraft: Story Mode, Dark Echo, and Olli Olli 2.
