While the unlocked version of the Nexus 6 received its Android 6.0.1 update directly from Google earlier this month, the carriers have only recently started rolling out the software to the smartphone. Now, it is the turn of the third-largest wireless carrier in the US, T-Mobile, to roll out the update to Google’s 2014 flagship handset, according to a post on the official support page for the device on T-Mobile’s website. The update, which brings along Android 6.0.1, had apparently started to roll out on the 14th of this month, and comes with the same build number (MMB29K) as the one being rolled out to a number of other Nexus devices from Google. As per the changelog posted by T-Mo, the latest update brings along a number of bug fixes and security enhancements, along with a whole lot of new emojis, including tacos and burritos.
The OTA update will come in the form of a 178.2 MB file, which can only be downloaded via Wi-Fi as of now. T-Mo however says that it will be available over the cellular network at a later date. While update notifications will be available automatically, users will also be able to check for it manually by going into Settings > About Phone > System Updates > Check Now, and follow on-screen prompts from thereon in. T-Mobile also states that users will need to have software version MRA58X installed already on their phones to be able to download and install the latest update. Nexus 6 handsets running an older firmware version will need to first install software version MRA58X before they can get the latest update.
