The Moto G has always been a great budget device, coming in at under $200. This year’s Moto G left us pretty impressed, yet again, and now it’s getting Android 6.0 Marshmallow, before most flagships which will cost you around $600-750. The Moto G here in the US has already begun receiving the update to Marshmallow as of last week. Now, Motorola India has announced that the Moto G 2015 is getting Marshmallow in India. Motorola is a pretty big manufacturer in India, with the Moto G being their top seller, so this will be great news for users in India.
Now it’s important to note that Motorola India announced that it’s coming, and not that it’s already on many devices. But it should be shortly. We haven’t heard from any of our readers that they have gotten the update to Android 6.0 Marshmallow on their Moto G 2015 just yet. Even in the US, many haven’t gotten the update to Android 6.0 Marshmallow just yet. So it might be a bit of a slow roll out, unfortunately.
Marshmallow won’t add much, outside of stock Android features to the Moto G 2015. Seeing as Motorola is sticking to a stock Android build on their devices. But users will see Doze come to their device, which is going to drastically improve the standby time on the Moto G 2015, which was already good. Doze allows your smartphone to go into a deep sleep when you are not using it. Definitely important for those that need their phone to last the entire day. Another feature is Google Now on Tap, allowing you to access info from Google Now virtually anywhere in the OS. It’s a great feature – and sometimes you need to remember it’s there – and one that’s going to get better as time goes on. On the Motorola side of things, you will see Motorola Migrate and Assist apps disappear from your phone. As the company is discontinuing those apps with the update to Marshmallow on all of their smartphones.
You can head to Settings > About Phone > Check for System Updates and attempt to download the update to Android 6.0 Marshmallow. It should be a fairly large update as well.
