Just the other day, a report came through detailing that Samsung had trademarked the ‘Duo Pixel‘ name which immediately led to the assumption that they could be working on some sort of new camera product(s). Of course, a trademark does not actually mean much, as Samsung could be just looking to secure the name, an idea or anything really. In short, it should not be viewed as any sort of proof that a product is on its way to market. That said, now a few concept sketches have been noted on KIPRIS, the Korean Intellectual Property Rights Information Service portal.
There seems to be three concepts in total with all of them revolving around the same fundamental aspect, the camera. The first one is more of a standard Samsung device and makes use of a rear-facing camera which comes with a dual Xenon flash. Although, this one does seem to adopt a Galaxy S6 Edge persona, as it comes with what looks to be a curved screen as well as the mentioning of glass on both the front and back of the device. The second concept is a lot more revealing and seems to show what is essentially a modular smartphone. In particular, a modular camera which can be easily removed and presumably, replaced with alternate camera modules. The third concept design is also quite interesting as it shows a rather thin device which makes use of a large rear camera as well as a much thicker base.
Now, the assumption will immediately be that this could be something to do with the incoming Galaxy S7 and it is possible. Especially, the first concept as it does seem to be reminiscent of the Galaxy S6 and therefore would not be straying too far from a device that is already on the market. Which is a sentiment that has been said to be the case with the Galaxy S7 – that it is unlikely to differ too much in design from the S6. However, at the present moment, there are no details to confirm any of these as having anything to do with the Galaxy S7 or any known device range for that matter. Although, they are now being listed on KIPRIS and do make for some interesting viewing.
