There has been a lot of talk about Star Wars recently, and unsurprisingly so with the 7th film in the series releasing to theaters this month. Google has done its part to not only promote the film, but also provide users and fans of the Sci-Fi epic with some rather fun experiences both on desktop and on mobile. Most recently was the launch of Star Wars: The Force Awakens Google Cardboard viewers which people are now able to pick up at Verizon stores, but not too long ago it was also mentioned that Disney would be releasing a unique Star Wars VR experience that Cardboard users could take advantage of.
That VR experience is now available as well, and it’s part of the official Star Wars app so if you already have it installed there’s not much else you have to do but sit back and enjoy it. This is the first of what’s expected to be at least a few VR experiences surrounding the franchise, and those who are interested and planning to see the film should definitely take part in it as Disney has stated it will be tying directly into the beginning of the film. This is similar to what Disney did with Kabam who released Star Wars Uprising, an action-rpg in which the story line of the game is also linked to the film as an in-between to Episode VI and Episode VII.
Without spoling any of the experience for users, once engaged with the new VR feature you’ll end up on the planet Jakku, and you’ll be able to look around and explore the area a bit of what’s in view. There is certainly more to it than that, but it’s definitely better if you get to check it out yourself. Disney strongly recommends wearing a pair of headphones before you begin as it should help to make the experience much more immserive and therefore quite a bit more exciting. The Star Wars official app is free as is the new VR experience which you can grab from inside the app, and once it’s downloaded simply pop your device inside of a Cardboard viewer and enjoy.
