Facebook Messenger Updates with Custom Thread Colors & More

Facebook Messenger is one of Facebook’s more popular, or to be more accurate the most used app from Facebook. Aside from their acquisitions of Instagram and Whatsapp. Facebook Messenger originally was meant to be an app for messages inside Facebook. However, it has morphed into much more than that. Recently updating to allow users to use Facebook Messenger without a Facebook account, also having the ability to have your SMS routed through the Facebook Messenger app. On Wednesday, Facebook and Uber announced that Uber is now integrated into the Facebook Messenger app. Which coincides with today’s update.

On Thursday, the Facebook Messenger app was updated to feature some pretty cool new features. So now we have custom thread colors available in the Messenger app. So now you can assign different colors for different users in Facebook Messenger. Especially useful in group chats, where everyone would have a different color. You can also pick emojis for each conversation as well as choose nicknames for the conversations. Nothing really groundbreaking here, but still some pretty interesting features coming to Facebook Messenger. Now other users won’t see the color you’ve picked for their messages in a particular thread, but they can see the nickname for the conversation as well as the emojis in the nickname. So you’ll want to be careful when playing around with that. You won’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings.

One of Facebook’s engineers who works on the Facebook Messenger app, has also teased that there are more launches coming later today. So we’ll have to stay tuned for that. Facebook Messenger has had a pretty spectacular year, and it’s arguably one of Facebook’s best designed and most functional apps. We all know how Facebook’s main app likes to drain battery from our smartphones, but with Facebook Messenger that’s not really an issue, and hopefully it stays that way.

The update for Facebook Messenger should be available in the Google Play Store right now. So you can head on over to the Play Store now and grab your update, and start customizing away. While the image above shows the iPhone, it is also available for Android as of today. It’s nice to see Facebook releasing the same update to both platforms at the same time, something not a lot of other companies can do.
