Ridesharing apps are becoming more and more popular thanks to services like Uber and Lyft, but those are not the only apps out there that offer a rideshare option for anyone looking to hitch a ride somewhere. There are actually quite a few apps out there that offer some form of a ride share service, whether you’re wanting to catch a ride or pick up a car to drive around for a few hours. if you live in a larger city ridesharing apps can be a great alternative to owning your own car, or a nice addition for those times you just don’t want to drive yourself. They can also be great for nights out on the town or trips to the airport. If you’re looking for options, here’s some picks we found that are available in the Play Store now.
ShareACar
This is one that is likely head of a lot less than some of the others on this list, nevertheless, it still offers an option to share rides, catch rides, or share taxis. It’s only available in India, and doesn’t appear to be fairly widespread in terms of a user base, but if you’re someone who is in the region and needs this kind of a service this might be just what you’re looking for.
Flinc
Flinc is another ridesharing application which may not have much attention, but it has quite a few more installs than the app above, and it offers an easy to use interface while allowing users to either share their car for other users, or find a ride from someone who is willing to share theirs. Drivers also show up directly at the door for pickups, which isn’t always the case for some services.
Easy Taxi
So this isn’t quite a ridesharing app as it’s geared more towards taxis, but it still offers up an easy way to find a ride using your smartphone and just a few taps. The service works quite similarly to calling for a normal taxi so if you’ve ever used one you’ll likely be familiar with the way things work here. Currently the app only supports Mexico, Colombia, Peru, and Brazil.
Via
Via is an app that is going to likely look a lot like and work a lot like Lyft or Uber. You can hail rides for a fee from other drivers, as long as you’re in New York City or Chicago. The map will show you where you are and where your driver is at all times so you know how close you are to being picked up, and rides seem to be fairly inexpensive. It’s also possible to share rides with others using Via too, which can help to lower the cost for each rider.
Sidecar Ride
Sidecar makes it easy to request rides and save money while doing it as the app boasts affordable prices. You can pay in the app using your phone so there’s no need for cash, and it’s available in a handful of metro areas like San Francisco, Seattle, Boston, L.A., Chicago, San Diego, and Washington D.C.
UberPartner
This is the app for Uber Drivers, and is a requirement if you’re going to drive for the service. Once you’ve become a driver you can easily use the app to notify when you’re ready to start doing pickups, just tap a button in the app to turn on your availability. The app also has integrated GPS navigation and maps so you can use it to get to where your riders need to go.
Car2Go
Car2Go is a little different from the rest on this list as it doesn’t provide you with a pickup, instead, you use the app and service to grab a car you can rent for a designated amount of time at a specific fee. They operate in 30 cities across the globe and have quite a few rides in the fleet, making it possible to find one in most major metro areas.
Zipcar
Much like Car2Go, Zipcar is an option for people who want to drive themselves but don’t own their own car. The service operates in tons of places, and it’s easy to grab a car and reserve it for any amount of time from 1 hour to a few days or more if you wish. You can also use the app to lock and unlock the vehicle, and when you’re done with the reservation you simply park it back where it was when you found it.
Uber
Uber certainly needs no introduction, as they’re in the news pretty much daily. More than that though they operate in a wide range of locations around the globe, and using the app you can call for a ride pretty much any time day or night. Prices are competitive and usually cheaper than Taxis, and you can pay using a credit card or PayPal. Rides also tend to show up pretty quickly, which means you spend less time waiting, and that’s a good thing.
Lyft
Last but not least is Lyft, a service similar to Uber. It allows you to easily request a ride with just a couple of taps, and the integrated maps let you see where the ride is on its route to pick you up. Rides come fairly quickly with Lyft as well and payment is also easy as you can pay in-app using options like credit cards and now even Android Pay.
