Since Google Photos was relaunched in the summer, going from Google+ Photos to Google Photos at Google I/O, we’ve gotten plenty of really cool features. Including the ability to share photos anywhere on the web by just using a link. On Thursday, the Google Photos team have announced an extension to that feature. Beginning today, you’ll be able to share albums anywhere on the web, and not just pictures, or a group of pictures. Now this might sound a bit confusing because we were able to select a group of photos and share them already. But now you’ll be able to properly create albums and share them with anyone. Whether they are on Google+ or not.
“With today’s launch, you can now make the albums you send collaborative. People receiving the shared album can join to add their own photos and videos, and also get notifications when new pics are added.” According to Google’s blog post about this update.
This is something that Google did demo at Google I/O earlier this year where Google Photos was relaunched. But it’s finally here. Being able to invite someone to the album and having them add their own pictures and videos is a pretty big deal. For instance, if you went to Thanksgiving last month and all the family was there, it’s likely that many others took pictures that you didn’t get. Invite everyone to that album and they can all share their pictures into one big album. Pretty neat, and definitely a nice feature to have with Google Photos.
Google also touts in their blog post that there is no setup needed here. All you need to do is create an album and then send the link off to whoever you wish to share the album with. It really can’t get any easier than that, now can it? The functionality is already built into the Android and iOS apps, so you can start sharing albums today. Whether that be on the web, Android or iOS, the process is the same. Giving users the same experience across multiple operating systems is definitely a good move.
