There was once a time when Google Images was the cat’s meow of the Internet, that was a long time ago now, but Google Images continues to be a big part of Google Search. Whether or not you’re using Google Images for good, for research, for amusement or *ahem* other things is up to you, but Google wants to make all of that a little easier now. Google is doing this inside the United States by allowing users to ‘star’ and save images for later. This is a pretty great addition, and it’s something we would have thought Google would have introduced a long time ago, really.
How this works is pretty simple, you just need to head on over to Google Images in a mobile browser, and then just search for whatever you want. Then, when you click on an image, you’ll notice a new star icon in the bottom corner, touching that will save it to a Collection. These you can rename and bring up whenever you need or want to, making research a little easier and it means you won’t have to go trawling through the same results when you’re trying to show that funny picture to someone in class or around the office. Of course, Google is hoping that you have more serious uses for this new feature, but what you do with it is up to you.
With Google Photos having become a big success for the Internet Giant it’s unsurprising to see them turn a little more attention back to Google Images. This is also yet another move by Google to make the mobile web a little more powerful. Coupled with the introduction of a handful of streamed apps, it appears as though the Mountain View company is hoping to end 2015 with a powerful mobile web. As we said, this new feature is only available in the US and should be available to everyone using “major browsers” as well as those on both Android and iOS.
