A couple of days ago, we reported that the CEO of Google, Sundar Pichai, will make an official visit to India. To be more specific, Sundar Pichai is to meet with the Prime Minister and President of India during his visit. Now, we didn’t have much info when it comes to the reason why is he visiting India, it was easy to assume that they’ll talk about technology nad further Google actions in the country, but nothing specific was revealed. Well, a new report which surfaced today actually reveals somewhat more info, read on.
According to the report, Google might actually launch the v2.0 Android One program of sorts in India during his visit. Google has actually sent out press invitations for a press event which will be held on December 16th, and the invite says the following: ”At Google, we believe that technology can change people’s lives for the better. Indians are coming online at an astonishing rate with affordable smartphones. These new users have a completely fresh view on what the Internet has to offer. Please block your date for an event with Google as we outline our vision for these users”. Now, the invite itself isn’t all that revealing, and doesn’t point out the Android One-related launch, but according to sources, Android One v2.0 is definitely on Sundar Pichai’s agenda during that press conference.
Sources also say that Google plans to launch a new Android One handset in partnership with an India-based smartphone manufacturer Lava. The phone is expected to cost less than Rs. 4,000, and Android 6.0 Marshmallow will almost certainly going to come pre-installed on that handset. As rumored recently, Sundar Pichai is also expected to give more control to companies which manufacture Android One devices, like Lava for example, which should make it easier for manufacturers. It is possible that there’s more to this event than Android One, but this is all the info we have at the moment. As a side note, Google has launched Android One project in India back in 2014, and up to today, Android One devices didn’t exactly meet expectations, let’s see what’s Google’s next step.
