In September this year, Google, at a press event held in San Francisco, California, announced not one, but two new devices as part of its 2015 Nexus smartphone lineup. While the smaller Nexus 5X happens to be a mid-range smartphone that’s manufactured by South Korean consumer electronics company LG Electronics, the true Google flagship for the year happens to be the Nexus 6P, which is manufactured by Chinese multinational networking and telecommunications equipment, services and consumer electronics company, Huawei Technologies. Along with the announcement of the two all-new smartphones, Google also announced the Pixel C, an Android Marshmallow-powered tablet with a 10.2-inch display with a magnetically-attached keyboard option.
Coming to the two Nexus smartphones, the devices were first and foremost launched in the US at prices that were substantially lower than the price-tags slapped on last year’s Nexus 6. However, controversy ensued when the devices were launched at Europe, China and India at prices that were not too dissimilar to that of the 2014 flagship from the house of Google. As for the device’s history in India, the Nexus 6P was originally launched in the country in October, and was made available for purchase through the Google Store as well through online retailer Flipkart the following month. While the 64 GB version of the Nexus 6P was originally launched with a price-tag of Rs. 42,999 ($650) in India, the device was only being offered in two distinct colors – Silver and Gray.
Now, Huawei, the company behind the smartphone, has announced that potential buyers of the device in India will have yet another new color option to choose from, having just launched a Golden Nexus 6P that comes with 64 GB of internal storage. The newly-launched model will cost Rs. 43, 999 ($665), meaning, it is priced at a Rs. 1,000 ($15) premium over and above the price of the regular handsets. The device will apparently be a Flipkart-exclusive for the time being and will be available December 21st onwards. Apart from the color however, there’s nothing different between the just-launched Golden version and the previously-launched Silver and Gray versions of the device. Meaning, the latest model of the Nexus 6P still comes with the exact same hardware as it always has.
