Nextbit, a small startup put together by ex-Google employees and other hardware geniuses is offering up a Holiday pre-order for the Nextbit Robin, their Cloud-centric Android smartphone. Nextbit made waves at the start of September when they opened up their Kickstarter campaign and within a couple of weeks doubled their target, ending their campaign with $1.36 Million in funding, across a total of 3,611 backers across the globe. Over the course of their campaign, as well s after having closed it, the team added a new color option as well as options for both Sprint and Verizon users.
Today, we were told by Nextbit that they were holding a Holiday pre-order for the Robin at the regular retail price of $399, backers will have presumably secured theirs at a reduced cost, but it’s nice to see that slowpokes will get another chance without paying any more than the retail price. The pre-order is for both the GSM and CDMA versions of the device and will ship worldwide com February when the phone will be ready for the masses. Both the Mint and Midnight color options will be available as well, and the first 100 pre-orders, which have presumably already been filed by now, will receive a figurine of the Nextbit sheep mascot, which is penned to arrive December 20th, to give people something to unwrap this Holiday season.
For those that aren’t sure what the Robin is, it’s essentially an Android phone that leverages the power of the Cloud to be smarter and more efficient. There’s no need to manually pull down files or uninstall unwanted apps, as the Robin will figure out what you’re using and what you’re not using and then do it all for you. The concept is definitely one that those with strong 4G coverage and unlimited data plans will love, but those relying mostly on WiFi or 3G might need a little more convincing in the long run. Either way, if those that didn’t get a chance during the original campaign are looking for a second chance, they can head on over to the source link to pre-order their own Robin for $399 in a color of their choice.
