NVIDIA Confirms SHIELD Tablet K1 Android 6.0 Changes

NVIDIA might be better known for building powerful GPUs and SOCs, but recently they have introduced interesting products, including their SHIELD tablet targeted for gamers. Their most recent tablet is called SHIELD Tablet K1, it was announced last month and it offers few changes compared to its predecessor, but it is now priced lower. NVIDIA uses a stock-looking version of the Android operating system, and the company has become known for providing fast updates to their products. The K1 tablet was launched with Android Lollipop and a couple of hours ago, we reported that the most recent version called Android Marshmallow was already rolling out to this tablet and now it has been officially confirmed by the company, so we also now know all the changes that are included with the update.

The changes included in the SHIELD Tablet K1 Software Upgrade 1.0, which is based on Android 6.0 includes a new NVIDIA SHIELD Camera app with a new UI based on Material Design and an improved photo burst functionality, plus, new real-time HD Image Effects. From Android 6.0, users will see Google Now On Tap, Adoptable Storage that allows the system to integrate microSD cards with the internal storage, also there’s the new App Permissions system and the Memory Manager to see which apps consume more resources. Some of the changes NVIDIA included for the UI are the new wallpapers to personalize the tablet, users can also change the Quick Settings toggles and rearrange them, additionally, users can now trigger Google Now voice commands from the lock screen.

It is also mentioned that there are power improvements for the apps in standby and BT Low Energy will be more power efficient. Some of the pre-loaded apps were optimized and users will see the game Fallout Shelter arrive with this update as well. If the tablet is being used with a microSD card, there will be two options to set up the expanded storage, Portable Storage will not delete data from the card but if users choose the Internal Storage option to use it as Adoptable Storage the content will be deleted, so NVIDIA recommends backing up the memory card before downloading the update.
