Google Glass has been sort of kinda forgotten in the past couple of years. After having the Explorer Edition available here in the US for $1500, Google hasn’t said much about Glass. However, we did know that new hardware was coming for Glass, and that there was a possibility that Nest’s own Tony Fadell might have a hand in the design and make of the new version of Glass. Now according to a sketchy report, the new Google Glass: Enterprise Edition is coming, and actually it looks pretty much the same. These images, below, are from the FCC and 9to5Google are reporting that the Enterprise Edition will be given to Glass for Work Startups (well more sold than given to), only. So much like the Explorer Edition, this still isn’t meant for everyone, at least not yet.
Supposedly this new version of Glass will feature an Intel Atom processor, as well as 5GHz WiFi and better battery life. Just about every complaint about the first version of Glass – aside from its price – has been addressed. While the product does look the same as the previous model, it does now have a hinge, allowing you to fold the Glass and slide it in your bag or purse without it getting damaged. Additionally, there is a larger prism that sits above your eye now. Which should allow for more information to be shown on Glass.
Google has not yet announced the Google Glass Enterprise Edition, but we may see a press release come out from Google in the near future regarding this (we likely won’t have an event for Glass). Supposedly this model has been in the hands of “hundreds” of people that are in the Glass for Work startups as well as in the field. Some companies are also expected to be adding the Enterprise Edition to their offerings in the very near future.
Glass isn’t like Android Wear, that it’s not really meant for everyone (Android Wear isn’t even meant for absolutely everyone either). But Glass does have some really cool features, and would be great for doctors, athletes and a few other fields.
