Among the list of offerings for Android TV is Razer’s Forge TV game console, which not only has the Play Store available for Android TV apps, but now also has a new store front dedicated to gamers for a unique list of titles which can only be found via the Razer Forge TV and the Razer Cortex store. The newly launched game interface will have a focus on games only, unlike the Play Store which is comprised of both apps and games which run on Android TV devices, and will come along with a wide range of features to make the experience more enjoyable for gamers.
The most notable detail about the Cortex store is the collection of games on offer, which Razer has stated will be 150 plus titles that are available with the launch of Cortex and are available for the first time on Android TV. These won’t be the only games listed in Cortex however, as there will be around 240 titles total within the Cortex store for gamers to pick and choose from. This also includes OUYA titles following Razer’s acquisition of of the OUYA console and all of its assets, as well as some PC favorites, making up a large list of offerings from the get go. Gamers can also expect new content to be added in Cortex as time goes on.
To get Cortex on the Razer Forge TV units, existing owners of the device will want to install the most recent software update which Razer has started rolling out as of today, and to sweeten the deal they are giving Forge TV owners a $10 credit to the Cortex game store to be used on anything within. The credits will only be offered once, but will continue to be offered to other new users who may decide to purchase the Forge TV in the future. Aside from having unqiue games on offer, the Cortex store will also have what Razer is calling a “Dynamic Dashboard” that will switch things up to display fresh new content every so often, this way gamers are able to constantly discover new games that may be of interest to them. Cortex will also feature a ranking system for games that helps to show users tailored content based on criteria like star ratings, gameplay time, number of downloads and gamer’s own habits of games they play. With this in place no listing of games should be showing up as quite the same from user to user as the combination of traits will be slightly different. This ensures that each gamer more or less has their own experience.
