Let’s face it, every gift buyer lays an egg every once in a while. Whether it’s a picky relative who wanted a black Nexus 6P instead of a gold one or a friend who wrote off the Chromecast on arrival, if you’ve found yourself as one of those gift buyers this holiday season, Google has you covered all the way until the 22nd of January as they understand it’s the holidays and people may be needing some extra time to return something that isn’t quite to their liking.
Devices and accessories bought from the Google Store or an authorized retailer between November 27 and December 25 this year can be returned all the way up until the 22nd. This means last minute shoppers have a fallback, should a Christmas gift still be in the mail when it’s declared a flop by the would-be recipient. Those treating themselves can also, of course, take advantage of the return window. One clever Redditer plans to use this opportunity to see if a Huawei Nexus 6P is worth making the switch from the vaunted Samsung Galaxy Note 4. The Google Store doesn’t offer exchanges, but full refunds are available within the period. This program does not cancel out the separate 30 day return window on the Nest Thermostat and Nest Protect devices.
To initiate the process to return any merchandise, all a customer has to do is poke through their order history to find the item in question and tell Google why a return is wanted. To return it, a customer will just need the box your purchase came in, your purchase and any bundled accessories. Using the form Google provides, the item can be returned without consequence. If an item has passed its return window or hasn’t shipped yet, it will show as not eligible for return. If this is the case, you may have to contact Google for help or simply cancel your order. The customer is, of course, responsible for ensuring that Google gets their purchase back in mint condition. The return window is normally only 15 days, but during the extended return period for the holidays, no special procedures are required. If an item falls into the extended window, simply return it as any other item would be returned.
