Roam Mobility Unveils Prepaid Plans For Visitors To Canada

Canadian telecom company Roam Mobility has announced its arrival as an MVNO in the country. While it is not immediately clear on whose network the company will actually operate on, the Vancouver-based firm has now come out and announced some of its prepaid plans that are aimed squarely at visitors from foreign shores. While at first sight the plans may not come across as particularly exciting for US residents, they do signify substantial savings on roaming charges for tourists, something the company hopes people visiting the country will appreciate. As for the plans announced by Roam Mobility, tourists staying in the country will be entitled to choose from three prepaid options being offered by the carrier – a 7-day plan costing $26.95, a 14-day plan at $37.95 and a 21-day plan that has been priced at $49.95. All the plans mentioned above come with unlimited talk and text along with 500 MB of LTE data.

The allocated data may seem too low by American standards, but for the uninitiated, data costs in Canada are significantly higher than they are in the US, something that’s mostly blamed on the lack of true competition within the telecom industry in the country. That being the case, reports from within the US’s northern neighbor seem to indicate that the just-announced plans from Roam Mobility actually signifies major savings for travelers to the country. Just as a comparison, the $45 prepaid monthly plan from another carrier, Fido Solutions, offers a measly 400 MB of LTE data along with 300 minutes of calling within Canada and unlimited texting to Canadian and US mobile numbers. The carrier also offers by-the-day and by-the-minute plans that turn out to be even more expensive for even moderate users.

As a short introduction to Roam Mobility, the company is based out of Vancouver, as mentioned already, and currently offers a ReadySIM product that allows travelers to the US an option to have a prepaid local number for the period of their stay at affordable costs. As for the plans on offer, they start as low as $1.95 per day for just text and EDGE data, and go up to $3.95 for the talk, text and LTE data plan that allocates a bucket of 400 MB per day along with unlimited talk and text.
