Rumor: Nexus 7 (2016) Could Be Manufactured By Huawei

As most of you know, Google has announced two Nexus smartphones this year, which is the first time the company has unveiled more than 1 handset at a time. Google has released the Nexus 5X smartphone, and the Nexus 6P phablet out in the market back in September. The two devices are available in select regions, and many of us have been wondering what’s going on with the 7-inch Nexus tablet considering we didn’t see many rumors regarding it. Google did announce a bigger, 10.2-inch Pixel C tablet back in December, but we didn’t hear anything regarding the Nexus 7 thus far. Well, a new report surfaced, and it seemingly reveals some details regarding the upcoming Nexus tablet, read on.

The latest Nexus 7 offering was announced at the end of 2013 by Asus, and it seems about time for an upgrade to Google’s compact tablet. Well, according to this rumor, the upgrade is coming, but it won’t be manufactured by Asus. According to the info, Huawei is in charge of manufacturing the all-new Nexus 7 which will be announced in 2016. The source claims that the project is already on the way, and if this report is accurate, this tablet might be launched during Google I/O next year. Unfortunately, this report doesn’t share any specific details when it comes to this tablet, but if the info is accurate, we might see some additional news soon.

Now, both of Google’s Nexus 7 tablets thus far were budget devices made out of plastic. The two tablets were quite popular, and many would agree Google and Asus did a good job releasing them, but it remains to be seen what will happen next year. Will the Nexus 7 remain a budget offering, or will Huawei release a device similar to Nexus 6P (in tablet form of course), and make it more expensive? Well, considering the fact Google already has the Pixel C in its lineup, we do expect the all-new Nexus 7 to be quite affordable, but it remains to be seen what will happen. Either way, stay tuned for additional news, and take this rumor with a grain of salt, as usual.
