Samsung Looks To Balance Leadership With Experience & Ambition

With the launch of Samsung’s Galaxy S6 lineup earlier this year, many thought it would help to boost the waning sales of the mobile division for Samsung Electronics. Despite the Galaxy S6 line being a great device on offer, Samsung’s sales have continued to decrease which has resulted in lower marketshare, losing a number of consumers to other competing brands. This is likely a factor that led to yesterday’s announcement about the decision to reshuffle the executive level management across the company, as Samsung appointed Dongjin Koh to the head of Samsung’s mobile business, effectively replacing J.K. Shin in this role.

Following up from yesterday’s details on the change up, Samsung is applying a strategy of mixing up the management roles even more to include older and younger executives to help them return the smartphone business and Samsung Electronics as a whole to its former glory. Samsung’s hopes are that a combination of younger ambitious executives and older more experienced executives will allow them to weather the storm of declining sales, as the company works to increase profitability of the mobile division by looking forward to both the shorter and longer term goals, which includes marketing the Galaxy S7 set to launch early in 2016 while also facilitating a rise in smartphone sales, and looking beyond the next few years to form a strategy for longevity of future profits.

According to the new report today on Samsung’s management shakeup, J.K. Shin will still carry a prominent role in the mobile division and take on the task of putting much of his focus and efforts into what Samsung has outlined a few years down the road, which is said to include their plans for replacing the Galaxy brand with a newer, and more successful brand model. Koh’s role, then, will be to focus mostly on the immediate future, which is as stated above to be the growing of smartphone sales and heavily promoting the upcoming Galaxy S7 flagship device. With new leadership roles settling in and a new plan for the future, it’s possible Samsung could finally be looking at a combination of decisions which could help them raise sales, although it’s still much too early to tell.
