As many as four of Samsung’s premium smartphones on T-Mobile are getting updates this Monday, according to reports floating around on the internet. While initial reports seemed to indicate that only the Galaxy S6 and the S6 Edge were getting new software, reports since then have claimed that Samsung’s two latest premium phablets, the Galaxy Note 5 and the Galaxy S6 Edge+, have also started getting new software rolled out to them. Now, while all four of Samsung’s 2015 flagships are getting updates, none of them are seeing Marshmallow by the looks of things though. The update happens to be the December security patches that are being rolled out to the handsets, so owners can rest easy that their smartphones now have the latest security patches from Google.
Coming to the updates, the software version that’s being rolled out to the Galaxy S6 is G920TUVS3DOJC, while the S6 Edge is getting baseband version GS925TUVS3DOJC. While the former reportedly is a 68.58 MB update, the later comes with a file size of 68.87 MB. As for the updates being rolled out to the two phablets, the Galaxy Note 5 is getting software version N920TUVS2COKC, while the S6 Edge+ is receiving version G928TUVS2COKC. While these updates are slightly larger in size than the ones being rolled out to the two smaller handsets, they’re still fairly small in the larger scheme of things, with the Note 5 update weighing in at 74.49 MB, while the S6 Edge+ update has a file size of 75.23 MB.
The one interesting feature that seems to have come with this latest release is a new “Android security patch level” segment in the “About Device” section; something that apparently wasn’t present in any of the devices thus far. While the update notifications will go out to everyone with the four aforementioned handsets, it is important to remember that the software has only just started rolling out, so it might take a little bit of time before every T-Mo subscriber across the length and breadth of the country get the notification on their phones. In that case, users may check for the update manually by going into Settings > About Device > Software Update. Either way, it is only a matter of time before the updates roll out to one and all.
