T-Mobile Rolling Out Android 5.1.1 For Note 4 & Note Edge

According to a post on T-Mobile’s website, the carrier is finally rolling out the much-awaited Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update to Samsung’s flagship phablets from last year – the Galaxy Note 4 and the Galaxy Note Edge, both of which were thus far languishing on Android 5.0. The update will be available OTA (Over the Air) to all users of the devices on T-Mobile, but it can also be downloaded via Samsung Smart Switch or Samsung Kies software on computers. Both devices came with Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box, but had received the Android 5.0 Lollipop update earlier this year. As per the post on T-Mobile’s site, the Android 5.1 rollout begun on November 30th and brings along features such as ‘Advanced Messaging’ and ‘T-Mobile Video Calling’.

As for the latest updates to the two devices, the notification should be available fairly soon for users still waiting on the new software, as it’s customary for these updates to be rolled out in phases. Hence, it might take a while before everyone gets the notification on their respective devices. Users may also check for the update manually by going into Settings > About > Updates. The new software for the Galaxy Note Edge comes with the baseband version N915TUVU2COK2, and for those on the latest version of the software, the download will be a comparatively small 150 MB in size, as per the information posted on T-Mobile’s website. As for the software for the Note 4, it will either come with baseband version N910TUVU2DOK2 or N910T3UVU1DOK. While the later will be download of 223 MB, the former will come with a hefty 677 MB file size.

As a quick recap of the two devices that are receiving the update from T-Mobile, both the phablets were launched late last year by the South Korean company. While the Note 4 was a regular upgrade for the Note 3 from the previous year, the Note Edge was a revolutionary new concept that came with a curved edge on one side. While the company has since launched the Note 5 earlier this year as a replacement for the Note 4, the Note Edge branding has been discontinued. Instead, this year’s curved-edge phablet from Samsung has been dubbed the Galaxy S6 Edge+, and is positioned as a larger variant of the Galaxy S6 Edge smartphone.
