Xiaomi is one of the two largest China-based smartphone manufacturers at the moment. Next to Huawei, Xiaomi is currently the top dog in China, and is actually looking to expand to other markets in 2016. The company has recently launched the Redmi Note 3 handset, and the Mi Pad 2 tablet, in addition to a number of other devices they’ve unveiled this year. Xiaomi is not only a smartphone and tablet OEM though, they also manufacture all sorts of other smart gadgets, including wearables. The company has introduced their Mi Band fitness band a while back, and the 2nd-gen fitness smartband has been unveiled last month.
That being said, Xiaomi is now actually ranked third in the Global Wearable Shipment for the third quarter of this year, mainly thanks to the Mi Band. This fitness tracker is a solid piece of tech, and its main selling points is its price, definitely. You can purchase this smartband for less than $20, which apparently appeals to a lot of people. This info comes from IDC, and it aside from revealing that Xiaomi is the third largest fitness band OEM, it also says that Fitbit is still the no1 company here. Fitbit has shipped 4.7 million units and now holds 22.7% market share, but its market share has reduced since last quarter.
Apple is actually placed second on this list, the company has shipped 3.9 million units and holds 18.6% market share. As far as Xiaomi goes, the company holds 17.4% market share and has managed to sell 3.7 million units. Interesting enough, Xiaomi’s market share was 5.7% at this very same period last year, so the company really grew quite a bit in this segment. Garmin and BBK follow Xiaomi and currently hold 4.1% and 3.1%, respectively. Some of you might have expected Samsung to be amongst the top 5 OEMs here, but that’s just not the case. This Korea-based tech giant was present in the top 5 until recently, but the lack of new releases in this segment has apparently affected Samsung’s shipments and market share negatively. It remains to be seen if they intend to change that in the near future.
