The Xperia Z6 Lineup Could Feature 5 Models

Sony has been releasing interesting mobile products recently, their flagship lineup usually integrates some of the most powerful internals available and some components are enhanced with the company’s exclusive technologies, all of them are integrated into a nice industrial design built with premium materials. Still, the mobile division of the company is not having the success it expected, so they might be thinking of many strategies to make it more profitable. The company adopted a strategy to release two flagship models each year, but some additional models belonging to a certain lineup would be updated once a year. Sony released the Xperia Z5 lineup a couple of months ago, and it included 3 models, the regular Xperia Z5, the smaller Xperia Z5 Compact and the larger Xperia Z5 Premium, which also includes the first 4K display in a smartphone.

Now, it has been reported that the Xperia Z6 lineup will include 5 models, which might be a new strategy focusing more in high-end models rather than entry level or mid-range devices. The information was obtained from AnTuTu’s Weibo page and it includes some details regarding the screen size of the devices, a code name and their processors. Sony has been using a 5.2-inch display for their flagship model since the introduction of the Xperia Z2 in 2014, and it seems that they will go with that same size for the Xperia Z6. The Compact series is often considered to be the only smaller version of a flagship with truly powerful specs, and the Xperia Z6 Compact is still listed here with a 4.6-inch screen. Both of these models will be powered by the Snapdragon 820 processor. Unfortunately, the resolutions of these displays are unknown, but perhaps it’s time for Sony to increase the resolution in both cases.

The other three models are new to the series, there will be an even smaller model with a 4-inch screen called Xperia Z6 Mini and the other models include larger screens. The Xperia Z6 Plus will supposedly have a 5.8-inch display and the Xperia Z Ultra will finally get a successor called Xperia Z6 Ultra and it will have a 6.4-inch screen. The Xperia Z6 Mini will be powered by the Snapdragon 620 processor and the other two models will be powered by the Snapdragon 820. The page also mentions that the Xperia Z6 and the Xperia Z6 Plus will integrate a pressure sensitive display, but none other details are known. While the teaser image in the invite to Sony’s conference at the CES shows a smartphone, it doesn’t seem very likely that the Xperia Z6 lineup will be announced at that event.
