YouTube Kids Update Adds Age Specific Homescreen Customization

While YouTube is a place you can find many things, with videos ranging from all types to content spanning different age ranges, if you have kids and you frequently let them watch videos on your device, it’s never really been extremely easy to ensure they don’t stumble upon specific content you don’t want to them to see. Google made things as simple as possible when they released a kid-focused app for videos appropriately called YouTube Kids, and now in today’s latest update to the application Google has given parents even more control with a newly added feature that is sure to please.

Being that it is just a couple of weeks away from the holidays, and the Winter season is pretty much here, Google has also added in a new winter theme for the app to ring in the season. The screens will be filled with snowflakes and snow covered hills which should be quite entertaining for the little ones. The theme also features various other holiday/winter animations and plays music. As far as the new feature goes, Google has put in a little more parental control by adding age-specific homescreen customization. Following this new update, you’ll be able to set the kids age level for the content you want to display on the homescreen, with options for “all kids,” “preschool,” and “school age.”

This should make it easier to ensure that the right type of content is being displayed to the right age group so older kids aren’t stuck staring at shows and content that is geared towards toddlers and such, and vise versa. If you or your kids come across something you particularly enjoy, Google has added in a new “watch it again” tab to make it easier to find things you’d like to re-watch a second or even a third time. It’s no secret that kids can often get attached to a certain show or movie and deem it their favorite, and beg to watch it over and over and over. This feature makes that as simple as possible. Whether you’re new to YouTube Kids or an existing user, you can pick up the app in the Play Store and the update should already be live. If it’s not and you’d like to take advantage of these new features, you can pick up the apk file from the link below.
