YouTube Releases 2015 Rewind Video & New Trending Tab

Nowadays, people are turning to the internet to help give them a momentary enjoyment. And with no surprise, YouTube is among the top websites people visit. With the number of viral videos to choose from, it’s really no shock why it has gained so much traffic. Because of these videos, their creators have earned their 15 minutes of stardom and have even went on to become internet stars. In line with this, YouTube has just added a new tab on their homepage called Trending. This new tab, accessible on both iOS and Android devices, makes use of an intelligent algorithm that gathers data from views, comments, and external references. With this information gathered, it then suggests selected videos on the tab which it thinks will be the next viral clip. In the past, users turned to the video recommendations to look for clips they could watch. But with this new Trending tab, users no longer have to go through the recommendations list to search for a video that could soon be a hit.

The contents found in this new tab differ slightly based on your location. And contrary to recommendations, this new tab does not have anything to do with the videos you viewed prior. Additionally, YouTube may actively be working hard to keep out those especially explicit videos away from the Trending tab. Currently, the list of videos on the tab is a mix of content posted from TV show clips, music videos, ads, popular vloggers, and other videos. Interestingly, these videos all have view counts ranging from five to six figures and have also been uploaded within the last three days. Although the Trending tab won’t replace the breaking news sections, YouTube promises to update it regularly so users can look at what videos are gaining popularity online based on different interests.

Apart from the new Trending tab, YouTube turned to its official blog to announce their annual YouTube Rewind video. The videos that have made its way to the much-awaited year-in-review clip include a selection of dance prodigies, TV ads, a carpool Karaoke, a Lip Sync Battle video, and Jimmy Kimmel Live’s Mean Tweets. YouTube chose these videos based on a criteria comprising the number of comments, likes, shares, time watched, and many more. In addition to the year-in-review video, YouTube has also published its top music videos of 2015 with Wiz Khalifa’s See You Again topping the list followed by Maroon 5’s Sugar and Ellie Goulding’s Love Me Like You Do. Adele’s Hello single has also made its way on the 9th spot of the list after only being released a few weeks ago. Other music videos included on the list are Major Lazer & DJ Snake’s Lean On, Taylor Swift’s Bad Blood, David Guetta’s Hey Mama, Sia’s Elastic Heart, Fifth Harmony’s Worth It, and Silento’s Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae).
