There is little arguing with how popular YouTube is or how often it is used by consumers. YouTube contains a significant number of videos which are watched a seriously significant times per day. In fact, the company has been recently reevaluating and looking at ways in which it can better monetize the platform. One of the most recent methods brought in was the employing of YouTube Red. This is a subscription type service which offers its subscribers the ability to watch content ad-free. Not forgetting, it bundles in a Play Music subscription too for added value. Which is another element which has also recently seen a change in the way it looks to monetize the service.
Well, if you are someone who makes use of the video platform to share your own videos, either commercially or personal, then you might want to make note of a change which seems to be on the horizon. YouTube has now confirmed that starting from January 16th, users of the service will no longer be able to directly upload videos from their webcam. To clarify, you can still take webcam videos and save them to your desktop and then upload to YouTube directly. So there are no issues in uploading webcam videos. The change and the retiring of the service only means that you will not be able to record via the webcam and have the video automatically uploaded to YouTube.
Chances are though, the retiring of this specific upload feature will not affect that many people, as the limited number of users of this particular upload measure seems to be the specific reason as to why YouTube is stopping the feature. The announcement details that the feature is being switched off as it is “rarely used“. Although, what is probably a more important aspect is that YouTube also confirms this is a feature which makes use of technology that is “no longer supported”. If you are one of the few who is part of that ‘rarely used’ quota, then following the 16th of next month, you will have to make use of one of the alternative ways to upload, either by the site directly, or of course from your mobile device.
