One of the big trends of the last year, was the adoption of Type-C USB support by various smartphone and mobile device manufacturers. Although, this is still considered to be a new form of connector with only a limited number of handsets currently sporting the tech, some of the biggest headline devices that arrived in 2015 came equipped with Type-C USB ports, including the likes of the OnePlus 2, the Google Nexus 5X by LG and Google Nexus 6P by Huawei. As a result and moving forward through 2016, it is expected that more manufacturers will begin to transition their next-generation devices over to ones which are Type-C USB compatible.
The issue with this technology though, is that older USB leads, adapters, plugs and sockets will no longer be compatible with these newer Type-C enabled devices. At least not without a new cable or adapter. Today, Acer has announced the launch of a number of new desktop monitors each designed to offer a specific selling feature. The most notably of which, is the announcement of their new H7 series monitors which are Type-C USB enabled monitors. In fact, according to Acer, the H7 series monitors are the world’s first Type-C USB monitors. As a result, those who opt to pick up the H7 series monitor will be able to make use of on-board Type-C USB sockets that are designed to offer an optimized level of data transfer with Type-C enabled devices. Likewise and consistent with USB ports in general, the new Type-C ports on the H7 series monitors will be able to charge your devices while they are connected.
In terms of the rest of the details, the H7 series monitors will be available in both a 25-inch and 27-inch sized variants and both will offer a 2560 x 1440 resolution. As well as offering HDMI 2.0 ports along with the Type-C USB ports. In terms of pricing, Acer note the H7 series monitors will firstly become available in EMEA and starting from €499. Acer does further note that these monitors will begin to be rolled out after the EMEA launch in other regions as well, although specifics on which regions, time-frames or region-specific pricing has not been currently provided.
