Over the past month there have been a number of rumors about the upcoming flagship smartphones from both Samsung and LG – the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge, as well as the LG G5. While both devices could end up being announced at next month’s Mobile World Congress there’s still no confirmation on such events however likely it may be. Aside from the rumored announcement dates, the most recent rumor surrounding both the Samsung Galaxy S7 and the LG G5 is that both phone may end up coming with iris scanners, a feature that is not very common but has shown up on some phones this past year like the UMi Iron.
While fingerprint sensors are starting to become more commonplace, with iris scanners on the Galaxy S7 and the LG G5 it would be the first time that mainstream OEM’s have integrated the features into their hardware. Both Samsung and LG are rumored to already have work being done on the technology, with LG said to be developing something in partnership with a Korean company that uses dedicated hardware, while Samsung’s approach may end up utilizing a hybrid technology that may use the front camera to scan the eye. All of this is still just rumors at this point, but it’s also still possible the rumors could be true. Would you want an iris scanners from Samsung or LG in their 2016 flagship devices?
