Android 5.1.1 Lollipop began rolling out to Android One and Nexus devices in the beginning of 2015. Now we are in the beginning of 2016, and the Verizon Galaxy Note 4 is just now getting its update. Better late than never? It’s not a big update, and surely users would rather see Android 6.0 Marshmallow over Android 5.1.1 Lollipop hitting their Galaxy Note 4 devices this morning. The update is pretty small, but there are some awesome tidbits in the changelog.
According to the changelog that Verizon has posted. This update will remove the Amazon suite of apps that came pre-installed on the Galaxy Note 4 (and a variety of other Verizon devices). As well as upgrade the Samsung Knox platform. Finally, it will also add support for Android at Work, which is a pretty big feature for enterprise users. Especially with BlackBerry OS pretty much done for these days. The update will come as build LMY47X.N910VVRU2BOK3, so far there’s no word on size, but we would still urge you to download the update over WiFi as oppose to using Verizon’s 4G LTE network. Unless of course you have unlimited data with Verizon still.
The OTA should begin rolling out today and commence in about a week or so. If you don’t get the update to your Verizon Galaxy Note 4 today, don’t fret, it should still be on the way. These updates are typically done in batches and a bit slow. The reasoning for this is to be sure that devices that are getting the update aren’t being bricked or having any other issues. And by rolling out the update slowly, it allows both Verizon and Samsung to see what devices come back online after updating the device. You can check for the OTA by heading on over to Settings > About Phone > System Updates and tap on “Check for Updates”.
The initial Lollipop update for the Galaxy Note 4 (not just on Verizon), was pretty buggy and made a great device quite poor. And this long delay for the Android 5.1.1 update definitely hasn’t helped things. There are plenty of long forum threads on Verizon’s website with users upset about the long delay for this update. Hopefully all of the issues with Android 5.0 on the Galaxy Note 4 have been fixed in this update.
