In the smartphone industry Android and Apple are the two dominating forces when it comes to mobile platforms, both having their own unique user experiences and features, yet both also having a wealth of available apps and down at the most basic level, a very similar offering. What Apple doesn’t have is a super simple method for the average user to switch from Apple’s iOS to Google’s Android platform, although a rumor from this morning seemed to suggest that Apple may have been working on such a tool. This wouldn’t be too hard to believe considering things like the closer compatibility between Microsoft and Android software, as well as Apple’s own tool to help Android users swap to iOS & their more recently released Apple Music app.
According to a recent report however, Apple is denying any such claim that they are working on tools or apps of any sort to help iOS users swap to Android. That isn’t to say that Apple hasn’t simplified the process for transitioning between the two OS platforms as they have made it easier to move your iMessage context over to Android, but according to Apple there is currently nothing in the works from the Cupertino, CA company which will make switching between the two mobile OS platforms as simple as a few taps to move everything from contacts, to photos, to other media like music, and video.
The rumor stems from supposed pressure that Apple has been receiving from carriers and regions in Europe about the complicated process to move between iOS and Android. While at the moment it would seem that consumers will simply have to take Apple at their word on the matter, stating that “There is no truth to this rumor. We are entirely focused on switching users from Android to iPhone, and that is going great,” there is a possibility that Apple could be developing a simple-to-use tool for assisting users in the event they want to switch platforms and they may just want to keep it under wraps for now. Whether that’s actually the case or not is unclear and may remain that way for some time.
