Many of us are cord-cutters now, looking to get away from our cable company. And many of use a set top box to do so. There are many set top boxes out there, including Android TV, Apple TV and much more. But which ones are worth the money? Let’s take a look.
NVIDIA SHIELD TV
This is one of our favorite set-top boxes. The NVIDIA SHIELD TV is an Android TV set-top box and does actually output 4K onto compatible TV’s. Not only that, it’s a great set-top box for gaming, as you have NVIDIA’s Tegra processor in there and Tegra-optimized games play amazingly on the SHIELD TV.
NVIDIA SHIELD TVRoku 4
Here’s another great set-top box that can also do 4K. The Roku 4 is Roku’s latest set-top box. Roku is known for the thousands, maybe even millions, of channels that are available. All of your favorite apps are also available including Netflix, Hulu+, Google Play Movies and much more.
Roku 4Roku 3500R HDMI Streaming Stick
Now this isn’t technically a set-top box, but it does everything that a regular Roku set-top box would do, so we’re allowing it. The Roku streaming stick is a small stick that plugs into your HDMI port, and gives you access to the Roku platform. It’s also pretty cheap, coming in at under $40. Making it much cheaper than the Roku 4 listed above.

Amazon has also created their own set-top box. This is the second-generation of the Fire TV which does include voice control from the remote. This bundle also comes with a gaming controller, so you are able to play your favorite games on Fire TV without any problems. One of the key features of the Fire TV.

The Razer Forge TV is one of the very few Android TV set-top boxes out there, along with the SHIELD TV listed above. The Forge TV from Razer allows you to watch all of your favorite shows from Netflix, Hulu, Google Play Movies & TV and so much more. It also comes in at around $150.
Razer Forge TVSony PlayStation TV
If you’re a PlayStation 4 user or owner, then you’ll love the PlayStation TV. The PlayStation TV allows you to play all sorts of PlayStation Vita games on your TV, but also you have access to loads of content to watch on your TV. It’s a pretty simple box and works even without a PlayStation 4.
Sony PlayStation TVAmazon Fire TV Stick
Again, this isn’t technically a set-top box, but still a pretty decent HDMI streaming stick for your TV. The Amazon Fire TV Stick plugs into the HDMI port in the back of your TV and is able to stream content from a variety of apps over your WiFi network onto your TV. It also includes all sorts of games that are part of the Amazon App Store.
