Google’s CEO, Sundar Pichai, just made a pretty big announcement on Twitter. The dates for Google I/O 2016, as well as the fact that the venue has been changed. Pichai noted that they are returning to where Google I/O started 10 years ago, and that’s the Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View, CA. Which isn’t too far from the Googleplex in Mountain View. Google I/O will be taking place from May 18th through the 20th this year. And we will be there, as always. This is slightly earlier than it was last year, but we’ll still have all kinds of goodies announced at the event.
Google I/O is Google’s annual developer conference. It used to be a four-day long event, but now down into just 3 days. The first day, there is a pretty long keynote which normally is kicked off by Sundar Pichai, who is now the CEO of Google. Afterwards, there are several different sessions, all broken down into different parts of Google. Including Android, Android Wear, ATAP, Google+, and many other parts of Google. This is where developers are able to get some help from Google on their apps and such, but also learn about the new and exciting things that Google is working on which will help out their developers. It’s a great event, for developers as well as the press.
Typically, we see the next version of Android previewed at the event. Which this year should be Android N. There’s no word on what the N will stand for yet, and we likely won’t find out until the fall. That’s always a secret, even for the Googlers. We’ll also hear about all types of new updates coming to various other Google products. It’s a very exciting time of year for those that love Google and their products. There usually aren’t any hardware announcements made at Google I/O anymore, but they have been known to surprise us. Heck, even Cardboard was a surprise back in 2014. No one really knew what that was for at first. But we will be in Mountain View for Google I/O this year, and we definitely cannot wait.
