While there are a number of things that smartphones can now do for us, sometimes it is the basic features that are often the most useful. Telling the time is certainly one of the aspects that we all use smartphones for and there is also the ability to check the weather and let you know exactly what to expect for the day or even the week ahead. In fact, this is what has led to a surge in weather-related apps coming through for Android. Although, for a number of people, the Google app and Google Now is a great way to keep informed on all things weather-related.
On that note, it now looks as though the weather aspect of Google Now is about to get a whole lot better. Google has today announced an update to the Google app which is specifically designed to offer more comprehensive information on the weather where you are. Some of the features now listed include hourly details on how the skies currently look, their conditions, the chance of rain and so on. In fact, the more in-depth information does not only apply to daily forecasts either, as more detailed 10-day forecasts will also be on offer. As will information on the air quality, UV index, as well as detailed sunrise and sunset times. So now by simply searching for “weather” or asking Google a local weather-related question, you can expect a far more detailed response.
It is not just the details that have been updated though, as the new look weather feature also includes an improved visual aspect. When you now search and click through to a weather forecast, the updated feature will include animated images which help to offer the user a visual representation of the current weather. So as the weather changes where you are, so will the animations. This is actually a feature that had been rumored to be on the way not too long ago. Furthermore, you can also add additional locations to your favorite places by simply searching for the weather in a specific location and then opting to “add” it to your list. As this is an update to the Google App, you should see the update arrive soon enough on your device. In the meantime, you can see how the new design looks in the image below.
