Huawei is a company that a lot of people will these days think of making smartphones and perhaps more recently smartwatches. Of course, Huawei is known for much than that and sticking with the mobile theme the Chinese firm makes a number of tablets throughout the year. Last Summer, the company officially announced the MediaPad M2, and now they’re announcing a new, larger version at CES 2016. The MediaPad M2 10.0 is similar to the original 8.0-inch version announced last year, but has a few more tricks up its sleeve. For starters, there’s now a fingerprint sensor included, as well as some other interesting features.
The 10.1-inch tablet has a display resolution of 1900 x 1200 and is powered by Huawei’s own HiSilicon Kirin 930, itself an Octa Core CPU that features four cores at 2.0 Ghz and four more power-efficient cores at 1.5 Ghz. There are two versions of the tablet, a Standard and Premium Edition, with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage or 3GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, respectively. Both feature a fingerprint sensor on the front of the device, the usual Bluetooth 4.0 and WiFi 802.11ac capabilities and 5.0-megapixel front-facing cameras and 13.0-megapixel cameras. The Premium Edition will also feature a stylus for true pen input, with 2,048 pressure-sensitive points for accurate writing and drawing. The M2 10.0 will measure 239.8mm x 172.75mm x 7.35mm and weigh roughly 490g. Keeping everything running will be a 6,600 mAh battery which is pretty sizeable and on the software front Huawei lists this as running Android 5.1 Lollipop and their own Emotion UI 3.1.
Both versions of M2 10.0 will be available in either Luxurious Gold or Moonlight Silver and they’ll also benefit from four separate speakers. Harman/Kardon has partnered with Huawei, bundling in their Clari-Fi technology to offer much better sound reproduction across the board. While there’s no word on availability just yet, it looks as though the M2 10.1 should be launching later on this year, and Huawei should have more to share with us soon.
