MediaTek is a Taiwan-based company which has become quite popular because of their mobile processors. MediaTek’s MT6735, MT6753 and MT6795 (Helio X10) processors have been extremely popular in 2015, and we’re still seeing devices being released with these chips on the inside. MediaTek’s all-new mid-range Helio P10 SoC is already included in some devices available out there, and the flagship Helio X20 processor is right around the corner, it’s just a matter of time before we see it released, could take a couple of months though.
That being said, we’re not here to talk about either of the aforementioned chips, but the Helio P20 which just surfaced, this is also the first time we’re sharing some info about this processor. The newest report that surfaced in China says that the Helio P20 will come later this year, though it does not specify when. This SOC will, allegedly, going to be built using a 16nm manufacturing process. The Helio P20, much like the P10, will be a mid-range offering by the company. According to the provided info, this will be an deca-core SoC, and thanks to the 16nm manufacturing process, we do expect it to be more efficient.
Now, in comparison, the Helio P10 is actually made using a 28nm manufacturing process, so you can imagine what sort of an improvement will the Helio P20 be in terms of power efficiency. This chip actually has 8x Cortex-A53 SoCs clocked at 2.0GHz, while it ship with a Mali-T860 MP2 GPU running at 200MHz. We’re expecting Helio P20 not only to be more efficient, but more powerful as well. The Helio P10 isn’t a bad processor, quite on the contrary, it seems to perform more than fine, especially for a mid-ranger, but it seems like MediaTek is looking to step up their game with the Helio P20.
THat’s pretty much all the info we have at the moment. Helio P20 and Helio X20 are the upcoming MediaTek SoCs, the Helio X20 will be released within a couple of months, some rumors are saying April, though it was supposed to arrive in the first quarter of this year. So, all we know at this point, is that it will arrive in the coming months, and the Helio P20 will almost certainly launch after the Helio X20, perhaps Q3, or something like that.
